Camp reflection

 Camp reflection

For our writing task this week we had to create a six c's reflection of our time at camp, we had to pick your favourite activity's and talk about two of the six c's that we used during them.

Here is my writing.

Chaotic Camp

In week 8 term 3 the kaupeka hub went to YMCA Wainui camp. We were there for three nights and four days, we slept in cabins with our friends and it was very chaotic. There were lots of activities throughout them. During camp we discovered that we showed the six c’s through our trip. (creativity, citizenship, critical thinking, character, collaboration and communication) .

My favourite activities were the high ropes because it was very fun and it was cool to control the ropes for our friends. Also orienteering because it was super fun exploring through the forest and slipping in the mud. During the high ropes and orienteering we found out that communication and collaboration were big factors of it. Communication and collaboration were a big part of high ropes because you had to work with your team and communicate with one another to get to the top, and collaborate with your team to belay each other. Communication was very important in orienteering because we had to communicate to find all the signs, and collaboration because we had to connect with each other and work as a group to succeed.

We use communication and collaboration in our daily lives and I can now use these skills to help me get through life easier in the future.

Have you ever been on school camp?

Maths Factors & multiples

 Maths factors & multiples

L4: Identify factors of numbers to 100.

L4: Find common multiples of numbers to 10.

For this weeks maths task we had to complete two worksheets take a picture of them and add them to our blogs. then we had to make a step by step guide of how to solve the questions/learning goals. The fist worksheet was about identifying factors of number up to 100 and the second one was finding multiples and common multiples of numbers.

The questions on the first worksheet were:

figure out the factors of these numbers:
24 = 1, 4, 6, 8, 12, 3, 2
23 = 1
44 = 1, 22, 2, 4, 11
11 = 1
15 = 1, 3, 5
56 = 1, 7, 8, 2, 28, 4, 14
86 = 1, 2, 43
49 = 1, 7

The questions on the second worksheet were:

figure out the first four multiples in these numbers
3 = 3, 6, 9, 12
2 = 2, 4, 6, 8
9 = 9, 18, 27, 36
6 = 6, 12, 18, 24

figure out the common multiples in these numbers
1 & 8 = 8,16
6 & 3 = 6,12
10 & 4 = 20,40

Here is my "how to" poster

Have you ever done these learning goals?

Growth Mindset

 Growth Mindset

During the past few weeks the kaupeka hub has been learning about growth mindsets and happiness. This week for our reading task we had to find someone in this world who has shown grit and perseverance through struggles. I chose Anna Grimaldi, She was born without her right arm and showed grit by going on and winning a gold medal at the 2016 Paralympic games for Long Jump, while representing New Zealand . I decided to choose her because I really liked her story and how it inspired me.

 For my create I displayed what a positive and negative mindset looks like, I added quotes and a little blurb about Anna Grimaldi and her story. I included an article about How having a positive attitude helps you overcome life's challenges.  And added an article about Anna Grimaldi

Here is my poster

Do you have a growth mindset?

On my peace symbol I used all the colours and wrote what makes me happy, what my inner peace is, I wrote friends, family, laughing and having fun.

                                                   Here is a picture of my peace symbol.

My inner peace looks like laughing, spending times with my friends, living out my passions, playing sport and my pets.

 After the spill

For reading this week my group had to read the book after the spill. Its about the boat that sunk and produced oil into the ocean up in the north island. We had to challenge the text by asking four questions we also had to include and image and the paragraph where we thought of the question. The hero goal was Use questions to challenge the text, question the author, establish the authenticity of the text and state opinions.

This is my poster.

My Turangawaewae

 My Turangawaewae

For writing this week we had to write about our tuangawaewae "a place to stand". So basically where you feel at home where you feel happy and safe. My turangawaewae is Canterbury, I chose this because its where I live now its where my family is its where my friends are and its the sports teams I play for.

This is my writing.

My Turangawaewae

My Turangwaewae, the rocky mountain range with wicked views, mountain biking topped with zip-lining. Epic hikes and gondola rides to remember. Raging rivers and trees as tall as buildings. Sport champions home of the Crusaders and the Tactix. The coastline is full of sandy golden beaches. The crystal blue water is as blue as the sky and the sound of dogs barking as they walk along the beach. The Margaret Mahy playground, fun and laughter. This is my Turangawaewae because this is where I grew up and where I live, it's my hometown and where I feel happy and safe.

What is your Turangawaewae?

For this weeks maths we had to create a Maori pattern/design and use reflection, enlargement, rotation and translation. Reflection is like your mirroring your work, enlargement is like making your work bigger or smaller. Rotation is moving your work onto an angle a 90%, 180% etc. Translation is moving your work up, down, left or right.

                                                     here is what I created

Have you ever learnt this?

Reading Theempark

Reading theempark

Over the weeks of 7/8 in term one we had to create a place in Christchurch based of the texts we read, the texts were about the 2011 earthquakes. I decided to create a theempark called Rongo park, the word Rongo is Te Reo Maori meaning "peace after war" in this case 'war' describes the traumatic experience Christchurch had to go through in the earthquakes. I created a theempark because I think Christchurch would really benefit from having it. I think it would lift the spirits of those who were forever effected by the quakes and help remember those who we lost on 22nd Feb 2011.

This is my theempark.

Were you alive when the earthquake hit Christchurch?

Maths Statistics

Statistics

For maths this week we were learning statistics and making graphs. We also had to write statements about the graphs. For my question I picked non Maori and Maori population of cities in New Zealand. I used a column chart to make my graph.

This is my work.

Have you learnt Statistics yet?
