Reading Theempark

Reading theempark

Over the weeks of 7/8 in term one we had to create a place in Christchurch based of the texts we read, the texts were about the 2011 earthquakes. I decided to create a theempark called Rongo park, the word Rongo is Te Reo Maori meaning "peace after war" in this case 'war' describes the traumatic experience Christchurch had to go through in the earthquakes. I created a theempark because I think Christchurch would really benefit from having it. I think it would lift the spirits of those who were forever effected by the quakes and help remember those who we lost on 22nd Feb 2011.

This is my theempark.

Were you alive when the earthquake hit Christchurch?

Maths Statistics

Statistics

For maths this week we were learning statistics and making graphs. We also had to write statements about the graphs. For my question I picked non Maori and Maori population of cities in New Zealand. I used a column chart to make my graph.

This is my work.

Have you learnt Statistics yet?

My Maths Maps

Math Maps
For maths this week we had to map out the most direct way from Kaiapoi Pa to Onawe Pa , through the roads or through waka. We had to screenshot multiple ways from each Pa and see which was the most direct.  The mission was rescuing Onawe Pa by travelling south from Kaiapoi Pa.
                                                                                                                      N
                                                                                                                      W          E
                                                                                                                     S

If you take the roads its 67k from Kaiapoi Pa to Onawe Pa.
From Kaiapoi Pa you go south-west and then south-east then east to get to Onawe Pa.

If you go in waka its 118k from Kaiapoi pa to Onawe pa.
From Kaiapoi pa you would go south then south-east then back up north through lyttelton harbour and up to Onawe Pa.

The most direct way would be to take the roads, if you take a waka its twice as many k's.

Pa Week

 Pa Week

This week was Pa week. For maths, reading and writing we related our work to Pa week. For maths we had to make our own Pa and count the perimeter and area, we had to add houses, lookouts, meeting areas etc.  For reading we had to write a realstate add for what a made up 2021 Pa would look like. A pa is a moari place to live. For writing we had to describe the Pa we made for maths, describe it like a realstate add.

This is my reading task for week 6:

This is my writing for week 6:
This is my maths task:
The perimeter is 116m

Writing Wk 5 Trm 1

This week for writing we had to pick an article that we read for reading or the one we explored for writing, I chose the one that I read for reading the article was about Margret Mahy playground. We had to choose a paragraph of the article but re-word it and highlight the main points, and use specific details. Then we had to make the DLO (digital learning object) and put a screenshot of the paragraph we re-wrote.

Here is my DLO for writing week five.

Hero goal: Select and explore significant ideas developing main points with specific details.

  1. Before the park was even built the advisor, Te Marino Lenihan, thought of the idea to name the park Takaro A Poi as the Maori name of Margret Mahy playground. The reason he thought of the name was because it refers to               the swing of the poi as a place to play.

  1.  Margaret Mahy playground is one of the largest in the world, it’s worth $20 million dollars. This was a great idea to give the children of Christchurch something positive after the earthquakes. 6000 local children were asked for their ideas on what the playground should be based on. The winning idea was stories written by children's author Margret Mahy.

Are you enjoying the new school year?
